Seulmi Lee was born and raised in South Korea.
Her first work of fiction appeared at the Antioch Review. Her second one won the 2018 Editors' Prize in fiction and appeared at Meridian. She is now at work on her first novel "8 Lives of a Century-old Trickster", inspired by a story of her great aunt, one of the oldest women to escape alone from North Korea. "When I Stopped Eating Earth", a stand-alone chapter from the novel, is forthcoming at Black Warrior Review.
She has a BA in English Literature from Columbia University and an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Hong Kong, where she has received the Esther MK Cheung Memorial Prize.
